Shopify needs one custom app so it can hand Wapzio a token. Once the store is saved, Wapzio registers the cart and order webhooks on your shop itself — you never paste a webhook URL by hand.
Shopify admin access, and around ten minutes. The Admin API access token is shown exactly once, so keep the tab open until it is pasted into Wapzio.
Step 1 — Create the custom app in Shopify
- 1
Open app development
In your Shopify admin, click Settings (bottom left) → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps.
If this is your first custom app, click Allow custom app development and confirm.
- 2
Create the app
Click Create an app, name it Wapzio, and create it.
- 3
Choose the permissions
Open Configuration → Admin API integration → Configure, and tick these scopes:
Scope Why Wapzio needs it read_orders Read the order behind a checkout, so a paid cart stops being chased. write_orders Tag an order when a shopper confirms or cancels a Cash on Delivery order. read_customers Read the shopper's name and phone number, so the message can be addressed and delivered. read_products Read item names and images for the message copy. Good to knowSome admins also list read_checkouts. Tick it if you see it; abandoned checkouts reach Wapzio either way, and newer stores no longer show that scope at all.
- 4
Save and install
Click Save, then Install app on the app's overview page.
- 5
Copy the two credentials
Under API credentials, click Reveal token once and copy the Admin API access token — it starts with shpat_ and is never shown again.
Copy the API secret key from the same screen. Wapzio uses it to prove that an incoming webhook really came from Shopify.
Step 2 — Add the store in Wapzio
- 1
Open the form
Go to Commerce → Stores → Add store and keep the Shopify tab selected.
- 2
Fill it in
Field What to enter Store name Whatever you call this shop internally. It appears on the store picker everywhere else in Commerce. Shop domain my-shop.myshopify.com — the .myshopify.com address, not your custom domain. Admin API access token The shpat_… token you just copied. API secret key The API secret key from the same screen. Optional, but without it webhooks are accepted unverified. Checkout used by this store Shopify's own checkout unless you use GoKwik, Shiprocket or another third-party checkout — see the note below. - 3
Click Connect store
Wapzio verifies the token against your shop and registers its webhooks. The card then reads 6 of 6 registered.
A third-party checkout owns the cart, so Shopify's own cart webhooks may never fire and Abandoned Carts stays empty. Say so in the Checkout used by this store field, then copy the Ingest URL from the store card and have your checkout provider post carts there — the Connect a custom website guide covers the payload.
Step 3 — Prove it works
- 1
Abandon a cart yourself
On your storefront, add an item, start checkout, fill in your own name and phone number, and close the tab without paying.
Within a minute the cart appears under Commerce → Abandoned Carts with your number on it.
- 2
Place a test order
Complete a small order. The cart flips to Recovered and the order shows up for the order messages.
Shopify withholds shopper name, email and phone from apps that have not been granted protected customer data access. Open Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps → your app → API access, and request the customer data fields. Development and trial stores can withhold them regardless of scopes.
Keeping it healthy
- The store card shows the webhook count. If it is lower than 6 of 6, click Re-sync — that re-registers whatever Shopify dropped.
- Changing the app's scopes in Shopify means installing the change and pasting the new token into Wapzio (Edit store).
- Rotate token on the card's ⋯ menu issues a fresh ingest token. Do it if the URL has ever been shared outside your team.
- Uninstalling the Shopify app stops every cart and order event immediately, including reminders already scheduled.
