A recovery flow is a ladder of up to five reminders per store. Each rung has a delay, an approved template and, if you want, a discount code. Wapzio sends them in order and stops the moment the shopper pays.
Commerce → Recovery Flows, then pick the store at the top. Every setting on this screen belongs to that store.
Build the ladder
- 1
Set Reminder 1
Send after (minutes) is counted from the shopper's last activity, so editing the cart pushes it back. Twenty minutes to an hour catches people who were interrupted rather than people who decided against it.
Pick your approved template under Template.
- 2
Fill the template's placeholders
Each {{1}}, {{2}} in the template gets a value from the list — Shopper's first name, Cart total with currency, Name of the first item, Link back to their cart, Your store name, This step's discount code, and so on. Map every one; an unmapped placeholder sends blank.
- 3
Add a discount code if you want one
Optional, per reminder. Many stores leave reminder 1 clean and only discount from reminder 2, so they do not pay to discount people who would have returned anyway. The code reaches the message through the This step's discount code variable.
- 4
Add more reminders
Add another reminder creates the next rung with double the previous delay as a starting point. Three is a common ladder: 30 minutes, 6 hours, 24 hours. Five is the maximum.
- 5
Send yourself a test
Put your own number in Send a test on the right, then click Send this step as a test on any reminder. It uses a sample cart, so no real shopper is touched and no cart changes.
- 6
Turn recovery on and save
Flip Recovery is off to on, then Save changes.
An enabled rung with an empty Template looks armed on screen and quietly does nothing. Wapzio flags it in grey under the rung — either pick a template or switch that rung off.
Quiet hours
Set From, To and a Timezone, and anything due inside that window waits until it ends instead of being dropped. A reminder due at 2 a.m. goes out at 8 a.m. rather than never.
Feedback and reorder messages respect the same window. Order confirmations and shipping updates do not — a shopper who just paid expects the confirmation immediately.
From and To set to the same time is an empty window: the toggle reads as on while nothing is ever held back. Wapzio warns you in amber when that happens.
Limits worth setting properly
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Max carts reminded per contact per day | A shopper who abandons five carts in one afternoon is only chased about this many of them. A cart that has already started its reminders always finishes them. Set it to 2 or 3; set it to 1 and the second cart of the day is skipped for good. |
| Minimum cart value | Below this, reminders cost more than the cart is worth. 0 means no minimum. |
| Require marketing consent | On means only shoppers who agreed to WhatsApp updates are reminded. Keep it on unless your legal position says otherwise — and note your checkout must send that consent for anyone to qualify. |
| Stop when the order arrives | Always on, not switchable. A shopper who has paid never gets another reminder. |
When a cart is skipped for hitting the daily cap, that decision sticks — raising the cap afterwards does not go back and remind the cart that was already skipped. Set the cap before a campaign, not during it.
Watching it work
- Commerce → Abandoned Carts lists every cart with its status and, when you open one, exactly which reminders were sent, skipped or failed — and why.
- Commerce → Reports shows the funnel: captured, had a phone number, messaged, delivered, clicked, recovered — plus which reminder gets credited for the recovery.
- A cart that turns Recovered after a reminder is the number to care about. The credited column tells you whether reminder 1 or reminder 3 is earning its cost.
